There has never been a book that tells the epic story of motor cross in Italy from soon after the Second World War to 1970 - until now. “The Great Motor Cross Book” fills that gap and recounts 20 years of racing from 1950-1970, event after event. Particular attention has been paid to the protagonists, including Luigi Albertazzi, the first champion of Italy and the multi-titled Emilio Ostorero, who established a record that it will be difficult to beat by winning 16 Italian championships during his long and distinguished career. The book is completed by a systematic review of the top motorcycles of that fascinating period, each machine accompanied by a technical specification and a cut-away drawing of its engine. The power units range from the one left over after the war and adapted for off-road use to the specialist British, Swedish, Czechoslovakian and Spanish motors, with particular attention to the Italian units, from those of Aermacchi to Parilla. All of which is illustrated with 300 pictures that epitomise this pioneering period of a sport that is as impassioned as it is spectacular.
